He gives witness about the old man's death, "For I through the Law died to the Law", Gal. 2:19a. Every human being by nature lives as an old man under the Law, under the curse, under the wrath of God, and is along with all the world condemned before God (Rom. 3:19). God's people have died the death of the old man through the ministration of death and come to the end of the Law at the feet of Christ: "For Christ is the end of the Law for righteousness to everyone who believes", Rom. 10:4. Then they become a new creature in Christ, by the life-giving voice of the Son of God (John 5:25). That old man's life under the Law is forever past: "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new", 2 Cor. 5:17. God's people have put off the old man en put on the new man: "Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him", Col. 3:9-10. Because of the body of death, God's children remain entirely carnal (Rom. 7:14) until their last breath, yet at the same time they are perfect in the Perfect One (1 Cor. 1:30).
